David Denby: “The Great Gatsby” Review

I've never had any real exposure to any of Woody Allen's films. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised to watch Annie Hall a few weeks ago. It was a tad slow, but still very original, and thought provoking – so, overall a pretty darn good film. Given how old this film is, I couldn't help but think how many other actors and comedians have been inspired by his work.

When I was in an a capella group in college, we sang a version of the Oscar-winning "Falling Slowly" theme from Once. An awesome and incredibly moving song. I imagine this will be good.

Great movie, I've seen this movie several, several times.

I don't know what it is about the Jersey Shore that makes it so, but watching Jaws on a rainy night when there is a lightening storm makes this movie even more terrifying than normal. Highly recommended for rewatching at the beach when the weather won't cooperate!

This is one of my all time favorite movies. I remember going into the theater with limited expectations and coming out blown away. Whenever it is on TV nowadays I have to watch it.

A fantastic movie!

For some reason He Got Game is too often overlooked as a great sports movie. Ray Allen did a totally believable job acting as a high schooler,. The story is fantastic and while the ending is a bit unsatisfying this is a movie I always watch when it is on.

The most underrated (and possibly the best) sports movie of all time.

This is one of the best documentaries that I have seen it a long time. It pretends to be about Halloween, but ends up telling a surprisingly intimate and personal story about the interplay between human nature, relationships and passion.

A Fascinating Documentary. Lionel Mill's film has unique access to Prince Saud bin Abdul Mohsen, one of the rulers of the rich, powerful and secretive Saudi royal family.

A pretty interesting documentary that examines the circumstances and ethics of aging and life extension.

Just got around to watching this. Captivating. Horrifying. I recommend it.

A great independent film created in 4 weeks!

Totally underrated Woody Allen film. I'm admittedly s sucker for his work though. The cinematography makes me want to desperately get back to Spain. Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz don't hurt either!

Full disclosure, I'm a sucker for Tarantino movies going back to Reservoir Dogs. Django did not disappoint. There is no other film maker doing quite what QT does, his modern, vivid takes on B-movie esque themes are truly original. Parts of this movie are hard to watch, but thats art at its best sometimes. Loved it but its definitely not going to be for everyone.

This is the first film i've been able to see in a long while in a proper theater. Really cool effects and a dramatic storyline. It was worth the $12.50.

Can't go wrong with a Woody Allen movie in my opinion. I havent seen it since it opens this weekend, but if I can sneak away from the kids, thats what I'm gonna see.
